Job Description

Position Description

The Senior Investment Principal located in San Francisco will be a part of a diverse group that now requires an additional team player who will have wide-ranging, client-facing responsibilities. This role will be strongly focused on existing client management and new client business development.

This multi-faceted role requires someone who is comfortable in our entrepreneurial environment as we develop our business, combined with the analytical and creative strengths required to implement our investment strategy. Meticulous attention to detail, ability to think critically, and an execution-oriented, positive attitude are key attributes we look for. Excellent written and verbal communication competencies are required for interacting with clients, third parties, and firm leadership.

Our goal is that this person remains with the firm over the long-term to help the West Coast office achieve its ambitious goals. Our team puts a premium on transparency to maintain a meritocratic and collegiate environment. As a rapidly growing business, we seek team members with a strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity who will contribute as soon as they join us.

  • Client Portfolio Management (50%): You will take the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for your clients. This role includes:
  • Developing investment strategy by leveraging firm insights and applying them to both day-to-day portfolio management and more formal client presentation.
  • Providing general financial advice on topics including (but not limited to) estate planning, charitable giving, and external investment opportunities.
  • Internally, you will take a leadership role and focus on team development and on managing, developing, and mentoring junior team members who will support you in a range of responsibilities.

Business Development (40%): You will contribute to building our business and brand on the West Coast, which will require an entrepreneurial attitude regarding all aspects of marketing and broader client development. You will be involved in business development process from start to finish, including researching, identifying, and tracking prospective clients. As part of your role, you will also have the opportunity to support our innovation efforts in building new lines of business.

  • Investment Research (10%): This will not be a focus for the role, but you may be occasionally accountable for the investment due diligence process of managers located on the West Coast – including sourcing and monitoring new investments and leading initial meetings in the research process.

Key responsibilities will be regularly assessed and are subject to change from time to time based on the needs of the business. The individual may be required to work overtime as needed.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for ensuring all information security processes, policies and procedures are adhered to and any issues or concerns are raised with the Cyber Security team.
  • Ensure full compliance with all local data protection regulations and privacy controls, and any related issues are raised via the appropriate channels.

Qualifications / Attributes

  • 12+ years’ experience in a professional services role (e.g., management consulting, investment banking, or asset management). Experience in a related field (e.g., endowment / family office portfolio management, investment consultancy) is a plus
  • Undergraduate degree with a strong track record of academic achievement. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or professional certification (e.g., CFA, CAIA) is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Strong quantitative skills and detail-orientation
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative working environment
  • Experience mentoring, training, and managing junior team members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
