GENERAL SUMMARY
The Scan Technician plays a key role in reality capture field operations by conducting 3D laser scans, photogrammetry, and other data collection methods to gather precise spatial information for projects.
This position involves hands-on fieldwork, operating scanning equipment, and ensuring data integrity throughout the capture process. The Scan Technician collaborates closely with field operations and data processing teams to deliver high-quality data for project requirements. This position reports to and takes direction from the Senior Scan Technician and/or Company Leadership.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conduct 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and other data collection techniques to capture spatial data for various projects. Ensure that data collection is thorough, accurate, and meets project specifications.
· Operate and maintain scanning equipment, including laser scanners, drones, and photogrammetry cameras. Perform routine checks and calibrations to ensure equipment is in optimal condition for fieldwork.
· Transfer collected data to processing systems, ensuring proper file organization and documentation for QA/QC teams. Maintain clear records of each data capture session, including environmental conditions, settings, and any challenges encountered.
· Work closely with the field operations manager and other team members to ensure data collection aligns with project goals. Provide feedback on data quality and suggest adjustments to improve capture accuracy.
· Perform initial quality control checks on data collected in the field to identify any immediate issues. Troubleshoot equipment problems on-site, coordinating with the technology specialist if repairs or adjustments are required.
· Adhere to all company and industry safety regulations during field operations. Participate in safety briefings and risk
assessments to ensure a safe working environment for the field team.
· Stay updated on advancements in reality capture technology and techniques, actively participating in training sessions to enhance technical skills in laser scanning, UAVs, and photogrammetry.
· Prepare and submit field reports summarizing each data collection session, including observations, challenges, and
recommendations for future improvements. Ensure all data capture records are complete and stored according to company standards.
· Upon request, provides support and performs tasks related to other entities owned and/or affiliated with Butch Allen and/or “Allen Enterprises”, including, but not limited to, Allen & Company, Allen Underground, TransformXD, Nexus3D, Nexus Geospatial, and Parkforms.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
· Associate’s degree or certification in Surveying, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
· Minimum of 1 year of field data collection experience, ideally in reality capture, surveying, or construction.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with project management software.
· Familiarity with 3D laser scanning, UAV operation, photogrammetry, and associated software (e.g., Autodesk Recap, Leica Cyclone).
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
· Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and in remote locations under varying environmental conditions.
· Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
· Strong customer service orientation with a focus on meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
· Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, while also being a collaborative team player. · Eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The familiar work environment for this position is a blend of office and field environments. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, talk, or hear and will occasionally stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to stand and walk. This position also required travel and standing for long periods.
AVAILABILITY
This is a full-time position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Candidates must be prepared for frequent travel, including overnight stays, as projects may require on-site presence across various locations to meet client needs and ensure successful outcomes.
