Job Description

Our client is searching for a Plant Process/Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team at a paper facility in Chicago. This role will be responsible for managing and executing projects across multiple facilities, with an emphasis on machine installation, material qualifications, cost reduction initiatives, improvement projects, and equipment modifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, practical engineering knowledge, and a hands-on approach to applying engineering theory to real-world applications. This is an exciting opportunity for a mid-level engineer to join a high-impact team with tremendous exposure to cross-functional collaboration and growth.



Plant Process/Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:

• Apply engineering theory to real-world applications, focusing on pneumatics, gears, cams, and mechanical linkages
• Manage projects across sites, including machine installations, material qualifications, cost reduction, and equipment modifications
• Analyze data, conduct light design work with CAD/3D models, and ensure designs are approved
• Engage with production teams to meet project goals and ensure smooth execution
• Travel 50% (domestic and international) to facilities, customer, and vendor locations
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and vendors for effective collaboration
• Proactively identify improvement opportunities and drive continuous efficiency

Plant Process/Mechanical Engineer Requirements:

• 5-10+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing
• Expertise in pneumatics, gears, cams, and mechanical linkages is a plus
• Strong relationship-building skills with customers and vendors
• Proficient in data analysis, CAD, and 3D modeling
• Self-starter who actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities
• Flexible for domestic and international travel
