POSITION SUMMARY
The Nutrition Programs Assistant (NPA) is responsible for healthy pantry activities including stocking, organizing, and identifying and allocating donated items for SNAP-Ed programming. This position is actively involved in implementing and monitoring the Healthy Eating Research (HER) Guidelines and nutrition policies. The NPA provides support onsite and occasionally in the field to help serve families. The NPA works closely with several FSF departments to ensure the efficient and effective operation of program activities.
SALARY: $35,000-$42,000
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Nutrition Educators in serving families at pantries, Mobile FARMacies, distributions, educational units, and Food is Medicine activities. This may include set-up, breakdown, distributing lesson material, assisting with survey completion, and assisting clients with shopping.
Assist in implementing and monitoring the HER Guidelines and nutrition policies to reach a goal of at least 75% green and yellow foods. HER guidelines categorize foods as red, yellow or green, green being the healthiest foods.
Coordinate with the Allocation team for product ordering, inventory reporting, and assuring accurate delivery.
Coordinate with the Allocation and Volunteer teams to identify and allocate donated food and non-food items, both in the receiving docks and Sort, for programs and initiatives.
Reports any issues related to inventory or faulty equipment immediately and makes corrective actions as appropriate.
Assist in Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) change activities including recipe and ingredient “bundles,” healthy eating “nudges,” Nutrition Pantry Program (NPP), and other Creating Healthy Communities projects.
Complete all assignments in accordance with food safety and handling regulations to ensure the integrity of products through proper inspection, handling, and storage procedures.
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.
Ensure communications are returned as expeditiously as possible, preferably on the same day.
Support the overall mission and values of the department and organization, helping to create a healthier environment and culture of wellness.
Complete other tasks as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful clearance of a Level 2 background check.
Ability to successfully complete training related to the safe handling of food products.
Basic computer skills, including Outlook and Teams.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks, completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
Capable of following directions, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
Strong work ethic including the ability and desire to take initiative.
Sensitivity to diverse populations with the ability to exercise discretion while serving people in a compassionate, patient, friendly, and courteous manner.
Strong communication skills.
Positive attitude, flexibility, and a commitment to working collaboratively.
Access to reliable transportation with the ability to travel throughout FSF’s service area.
Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish, Creole, Portuguese, or Russian).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours of Operation: Organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The schedule for this position will vary, including weekends and evenings. This position may work additional hours during peak times such as holiday seasons and disaster response.
Environment: This position works in various settings, including an office setting, warehouses, and in the field, occasionally in inclement weather. Must be able to work with varying periods of standing, talking, and/or visual concentration, as well as the ability to work in a freezer/cooler environment and outdoors. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Travel: This position may have occasional travel for meetings, conferences or special events which may require the use of a personal vehicle.
OSHA Standards Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and when lifting loads heavier than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load.
