Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality & Education Nurse to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that clinical staff are well-prepared, supported, and consistently aligned with best practices in hospice and palliative care. The position involves coordinating and delivering orientation for new clinical team members, organizing ongoing staff education, and contributing to our Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Orientation & Competency Development

  • Coordinate clinical orientation for new hires in partnership with HR and clinical managers.
  • Implement and track competency testing and ongoing evaluations.
  • Provide one-on-one clinical education based on audit findings or individual learning needs.
  • Offer onsite support and training to Bruns House staff until they achieve independence in their roles.

Ongoing Staff Education

  • Conduct annual staff education needs assessments.
  • Develop and implement annual staff education plans using data from QAPI meetings, safety reports, and regulatory updates.
  • Design and coordinate continuing education programs in compliance with Board of Registered Nursing and Board of Behavioral Sciences standards.
  • Coordinate field placements for students, including contracts, scheduling, and performance feedback.

In-Service Training

  • Organize and deliver mandatory education sessions for Home Health Aides (12 CEUs per year).
  • Lead Preceptor Workshops to promote consistent field training practices.

Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement

  • Actively participate in QAPI Committee activities.
  • Conduct medical record audits and assist with performance improvement projects (PIPs).
  • Assist with preparation for regulatory surveys and accreditation visits (e.g., Kaiser, DPH).

Safety & Infection Control

  • Coordinate CPR classes with external partners.
  • Lead infection control initiatives, including outbreak response and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Administer and instruct on Fit Testing, TB testing, COVID testing, and flu vaccinations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong clinical background, preferably in hospice or palliative care
  • Effective educator and communicator with experience leading trainings or workshops
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for quality improvement
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and disciplines

Experience & Education:

  • Current California RN License 
  • Experience designing and delivering educational programs and courses in healthcare settings
  • Experience with adult learning
  • Computer skills required, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health-related field preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in hospice and/or home health preferred
