Job Description

This is an hourly in-person internship position in Norman, Oklahoma.

About Us:

VisitNorman is the official destination marketing organization for Norman, Oklahoma. Our mission is to promote Norman as a vibrant and welcoming community by supporting local businesses, encouraging tourism, and highlighting everything that makes Norman special. Through creative storytelling and strategic marketing efforts, we help shape Norman’s brand and visitor experience.

As a small but dynamic team, we recognize the impact strong visuals have on our marketing efforts. While we don’t have a dedicated graphic designer on staff, we’re excited to bring on an intern who can help enhance our creative output and bring fresh ideas to our designs. This role will play a key part in producing graphics and marketing materials that reflect Norman’s unique character.

About You:

You’re a creative and detail-oriented student with a passion for visual storytelling and design. You love working with layouts, color palettes, typography, and digital content, and you have a strong eye for aesthetics. Whether it’s designing social media graphics, promotional materials, or branding elements, you’re excited about the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced marketing environment.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the VisitNorman team to create compelling visuals for digital and print campaigns. Since we don’t have a dedicated graphic designer on staff, your work will be instrumental in shaping our visual identity and ensuring high-quality design across all platforms. If you’re eager to apply your graphic design skills in a professional setting while contributing to meaningful projects, we’d love to hear from you!

What to Expect:

  • Visual Content Creation: Design compelling graphics for social media, digital campaigns, and print materials while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Marketing & Sales Support: Develop promotional materials, sales collateral, and presentation decks to support tourism initiatives and partnerships.
  • Template & Asset Management: Create and organize reusable templates for social media, email marketing, and advertising to streamline future campaigns.
  • Print & Digital Production: Assist in designing and preparing event signage, brochures, and visitor guides for both digital and physical distribution.
  • Collaboration & Growth: Work alongside the marketing team to brainstorm creative solutions, contribute ideas, and gain hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 10-15 hours a week.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) required; experience with Canva or other design tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and color theory.
  • Experience designing for digital platforms (social media, web, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to feedback.
  • Photography, video editing, or motion graphics experience is a bonus but not required.
  • Portfolio or examples of design work strongly encouraged (links welcome).

Benefits:

  • Paid internship with flexible hours to accommodate your schedule.
  • Hands-on experience in tourism marketing and graphic design.
  • Opportunities to expand your portfolio with real-world design projects.
  • Professional development and mentorship from marketing professionals.
  • Experience attending and supporting local events to see your work in action.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit their resume, a brief cover letter, and a link to a portfolio or examples of design work to Madison McCarthy at madison@visitnorman.com. Applications submitted without relevant work examples may not be reviewed.
