Job Description

The Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for a Compliance Officer in the Public Protection Division. Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

The position will be domiciled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug testing, and reference verifications.

A Compliance Officer in the Public Protection Division will investigate complaints from constituents of Louisiana while enforcing State and Federal fair housing laws.

The position of Compliance Officer may consist of, but are not limited to, the following duties:

  • Perform as a primary investigator in the investigation of a discriminatory housing complaint as assigned and filed under the Louisiana Equal Housing Opportunity Act;
  • Prepare complaint files for processing;
  • Investigate cases assigned and collect data, which will support a disposition of the fair housing complaint;
  • Conduct all interviews, compile and file all physical evidence required for all types of housing complaint cases in order to establish the elements thereof and the standard of proof;
  • Represent the government in the conduct of these cases and will, at all times, maintain the demeanor of a professional law enforcement officer and will in effect represents the government entity charged with the enforcement responsibility;
  • Discuss and perform effective conciliation efforts between the complainant(s) and the respondent(s);
  • Mediate housing discriminatory complaints where appropriate;
  • Prepare a final investigative report; and
  • Conduct fair housing seminars when available as a public service.
