About the Children's Pastor:

The Children’s Pastor of Covenant Church, Houma is responsible for all ministry related to students in Grades K-5. He/She will be a shepherd to children and parents in the areas of evangelism and parental discipleship.

The Children's Pastor Responsibilities Include:

Requirements:

1. Has a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
2. Exhibits a teachable spirit and willingness to be a part of a ministry team.
3. Currently serving in church position or actively serving as a volunteer in the local church
4. Financially supports the local church

This position consists of four areas:

Evangelism of Children

• Lead in the overall evangelistic process for children at Covenant Church Houma. This will include but is not limited to:
• Make regular visits of children in the ministry. These can include visitors on Sunday, regular attenders, or faithful members. Each visitor should have some type of contact; phone call, letter, or visit.
• Provide regular evangelism experiences for children in which the gospel is shared. Statistics show that the majority of Christians make a profession of faith before age 12. It is vital that we continually share the gospel with our kids and provide them opportunities to accept Christ.

Discipleship of Children

• Plan and implement worship for children in grades K-5. This worship service should be high energy, exciting, and biblically strong!
• Recruit and train appropriate volunteers for each of the sessions above. All volunteers must undergo a background check and complete training in child safety.. This is the responsibility of the Children’s Pastor.
• Recruit and train volunteers to staff the welcome desk each Sunday. Volunteers should be trained in the use of check in software if available.
• Provide a safe and secure environment for all children during all Sunday and Wednesday activities.
• Plan and implement Wednesday night bible study for children in grades K-5 with all of the above criteria.
• Lead and empower parents to be the spiritual leaders for their children. This can be done through training, resources, and other avenues.

Events

• Plan and implement regular events with a goal of one event monthly. Regular events help build relationships among kids that can help them as they grow with friends who are also followers of Christ.
• Plan and implement Vacation Bible School each summer.
• Plan and implement the Fall Festival each year. This is an excellent opportunity to reach our community with this large event.

Pastoral

• Hospital visitation as needed.
• Lead twice monthly chapel services for Covenant Christian Academy.
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or Administrative Pastor.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience ideal
• Coming from a similar role is ideal

Education

• Under-grad required
• Masters level ideal

What it's Like to Live in Houma, LA:

We are located in the northern tip of Terrebonne Parish. Terrebonne is known for its fishing, seafood, and oil and gas industries. The church is situated between Houma, LA and Thibodaux, LA. Houma is a city of 50,000 people while Thibodaux is a smaller town of around 15,000. While Houma offers most of the amenities of a larger city regarding shopping and recreation, Thibodaux is a town with a smaller feel and a traditional downtown.

The majority of our people are Cajuns descended from early settlers of Houma who came from Canada to escape religious persecution. We live in a highly Catholic culture with a few large Protestant churches.

Cajuns are a very friendly people who are fiercely independent and value family. Crawfish and seafood boils are a way of life here with people often getting together in large groups.

South Louisiana also has wonderful food; you get authentic Cajun cooking here with numerous restaurants that specialize in that cuisine. However, most everyone here knows how to cook and to sit down with a Cajun family for dinner is a true treat indeed.
