Appellate Attorney – High-Impact Litigation & Research Focus | Washington, DC

An elite trial-focused law firm seeks a talented Appellate Attorney to join its Washington, DC office. This role offers a rare chance to drive complex legal reasoning and high-level writing strategy across some of the nation’s most consequential appellate matters.

Its major practice areas include vaccine injury compensation, medical product liability, construction and commercial litigation, federal takings litigation, Indian law for tribal issues, government contract disputes, and rails to trails conversions. Its team of attorneys has over 150 years of combined legal experience. Its offices are located in Washington, District of Columbia, Sarasota, Florida, and Seattle, Washington.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with trial teams to identify and preserve appellate issues throughout litigation

• Draft trial-level motions, memoranda, and post-trial briefing

• Conduct deep-dive legal research across jurisdictions and subject matter

• Analyze and develop legal theories for appellate strategy

• Write and file appellate briefs, motions, and petitions

• Present oral arguments in federal and state appellate courts

• Ensure compliance with procedural rules and appellate standards nationwide

Qualifications:

• JD from an accredited law school

• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

• Prior experience with appellate briefing and/or oral arguments

• Familiarity with appellate standards of review, structure, and court rules

• Admission to appellate courts preferred (or willingness to apply)

Desired Skills:

• Superior legal writing and analytical capabilities

• Precision in grammar and legal formatting (Oxford comma preferred)

• Ability to distill complex legal arguments into persuasive briefs

• Strong verbal communication for courtroom advocacy

• Collaborative mindset with independent execution
